The goal of the Christian life is to live in relationship with God and His Church. Often times religious education can become so goal oriented and curriculum conscious that it loses sight of its mission to minister to the religious life of the child.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd while teaching the faith; including but not limited to scripture, liturgy, prayer, the geography of the Holy Land... is primarily about making space and time for the child to encounter and enjoy God and for God to make Himself known to the child.
The Catechesis of CGS is not based on doctrine or experience but on kerygma; on the events that are the good news for us now. (paraphrases from "The Religious Potential of the Child" preface to the 2nd edition)
